The Red Caps started Saturday's adjusted one-day fixture in fourth spot on the Ballarat Cricket Association first grade ladder, but climbed to third with the four-wicket win over Golden Point.
The team is still only three points clear inside the finals bracket moving towards the huge battle with Darley, starting next weekend.
"It was a good game of cricket, it was pretty tight and ebbed and flowed a little bit," Wendouree captain Gavin Webb said.
"Our top order just did the job - they batted really well."
Set 218 for victory by the Pointies at the Eastern Oval, the Red Caps started the chase in great fashion thanks to a 72-run opening stand between Cole Roscholler (58) and Sam Miller (44).
That was the platform the team needed and further knocks from Heath Pyke (41) and Craig Jenkins (44 not out) eventually helped Wendouree secure the points in the 47th over.
While captain Josh White led the Pointies to 7-217 with his score of 84, Webb said the Red Caps were able to slow the momentum late in the innings and avoid a run chase of around the 250-260 mark.
"That was pretty pleasing, just to tie them down a bit," he said.
The Lions are still unbeaten and have shortened as flag favourites with victory over Mt Clear in Saturday's top-of-the-table showdown.
League-leading batsman Danza Hyatt (59), Jake Wilkie (56), Harry Killoran (48) and Anthony Taylor (44) all fired to set the Mounties a big chase of 262.
And while Steve Nicholson (75) and Jarrod Burns (51) tried hard, Mt Clear fell 20 runs short when it was dismissed in the last over of the afternoon.
Reigning champions East Ballarat need to keep winning to break back inside the top four and got the important points in Saturday's battle with Buninyong.
Skipper Josh Brown (three wickets) and coach Tristan Dixon (four wickets) rolled the Bunnies for a modest 150 and then it was an easy run chase for the Hawks' batsmen.
The home side lost a couple of wickets before the score reached 50, but then Brad Whittaker (62 not out) and Jacob Eyers (47 not out) put together an unbeaten 109-run partnership to win the match in the 35th over.
Elsewhere, Matthew Aikman took four wickets and Zac Jenkins made a half century to help Ballarat-Redan get home over North Ballarat.
Leigh Lorenzen got 76 for the Roosters but it wasn't enough as the Two Swords made it three-straight triumphs.
The other game of round 13 saw Brown Hill sneak home by two wickets against bottom team Napoleons-Sebastopol.
