A woman and a man, both in their 70s, have been taken to hospital in stable conditions.
One has been transported to St John of God Hospital while the other was taken to Ballarat Base Hospital.
EARLIER: Sturt Street was blocked to traffic this afternoon after a crash at a troubled Ballarat intersection.
Two cars collided at the intersection of Sturt Street and Errard Street North after the crash about 3.50pm.
Emergency services were first called after reports at least two people were trapped after the crash.
It took crews about 15 minutes to free them from the cars.
The full extent of injuries, or patient details, are not yet known.
The Errard Street intersection is one of the intersections earmarked for an upgrade this year.
According to VicRoads plans, the intersection will soon be altered so drivers cannot travel across Sturt Street.
Instead, they will be forced to turn left onto Sturt Street.
