A number of new parking meters in Ballarat have been vandalised and destroyed, with the trail of damage spread far and wide.
At least two meters suffered substantial damage on Doveton and Dawson streets, with the broken remains found more than a kilometre away.
City of Ballarat Director of Infrastructure and Environment, Terry Demeo, voiced his disappointment with the damage.
"As with any damage of its community assets, the City of Ballarat is extremely disappointed with these acts of vandalism," he said in a statement.
The damaged meters have since been removed, as was a broken bench seat on Doveton Street North.
The broken remains of the top section of a meter were also discovered smashed on the ground in the Bunnings carpark on Creswick Road this morning.
It appears the damage occurred overnight.
Council urged anyone with information about the vandalism to contact Ballarat Police.
