Ballarat's trains ran at a punctuality rate of 93.3 per cent, up from 91.8 per cent in December.
This trend was also experienced in both Geelong and Bendigo, which saw its punctuality rates grow from 89.9 to 92.6 per cent and from 86.1 to 90.2 per cent respectively.
The January Ballarat punctuality figure was also the line's best in more than three years and follows significant line works delivered as part of the Ballarat Line Upgrade late last year.
Department of Transport head of transport services Jeroen Weimar said it encouraging to see V/Line figures trending in a positive direction.
"It's encouraging to see regional trains were able to record solid improvement throughout the month," Mr Weimar said.
Ballarat commuters may have to make alternative travel plans next week, with coaches replacing trains next Tuesday due to planned industrial action.
