American Jalen Billups has singed with the club for the 2020 NBL1 South season. He will fill a hole in the front court left by Josh Fox, who departed the Miners at the end of 2019.
Miners head coach Brendan Joyce said he was an ideal replacement.
"He's got an inside game but he's quite mobile and agile, and what I like about him is he can stretch the floor and shoot the three," he said.
The six-foot-seven inch forward joins the Miners on the back of a stint with the Southern Huskies in the New Zealand National Basketball League. He averaged 21-points per game for the club, but failed to make the playoffs.
Described as a 'bull' in the low post, Joyce said his ability to step out and shoot the ball would open things up for others.
"Teams didn't guard Fox from the perimeter because they'd rather see him shoot than anyone else," he said.
"But they'll have to stick to Billups, and we think this will help us spread the floor and provide more diving lanes for other guys."
Billups spent three years playing collegiate basketball for Northern Kentucky University before taking his career abroad. He has spent time in the UK and in Western Australia playing in the State Basketball League.
The 28-year-old said he was excited to join the Miners.
"Very excited to just come out there, meet all the guys and compete at a high level and importantly, win." Billups said.
"I'm coming out here to build relationships, we all want individual goals, but we're here to win a championship so definitely excited for that."
Billups is the eleventh signing for the Miners.
The squad includes Sam Short, Kuany Kuany, Deng Acuoth, Tristan Fisher, Jordan Lingard, Zac Dunmore, Daniel Joyce, Josh Gibcus, Ross Weightman and Blake Allison.
