Ballarat Grammar was edged out by Loreto earlier this month at the Wendouree Ballarat JG King Homes Regatta.
Head of rowing Sam Pullin said Loreto and Ballarat Clarendon would be programs to look out for.
"Loreto have had a really sharp increase in their ability to race, and surprised a few of us a few weeks ago," he said.
"It won't be easy but I'm confident in our ability to be competitive, and if they want it bad enough, they'll put themselves in the right spot."
Ballarat Grammar will unveil a brand new crew for Sunday's event.
Pullin said all indicators showed the newcomers were up to the task.
"All the training and data on them indicates that they're capable of winning," he said.
