Co-coach Paul Commons said the crew had reaped the benefits of mixing sweep and quad events.
His joint coach Luke Pougnault said many believed this approach had the potential to impact detrimentally on technique for the coxed four, but this had not proved the case.
Jack Bond, Oliver Meakin, Sam Crothers-Bade, Felix Oliver and coxswain Harriet Jones won the school coxed four open division one and coxed quad scull open division one double at the Head of the Schoolboys in Ballarat a week before the head of the lake.
And they plan to tackle a similar double at the state championships on Lake Wendouree on Saturday and Sunday, with the under-19 coxed quad to be a lead up to the schoolboys' coxed four.
Commons also put the open boys' squad success - Grammar also won open division two - down to the close bond within the group and the competitive nature developed through the selection process, which featured a sculling racing program.
Commons described Grammar's race on Sunday as a controlled performance.
Ballarat Clarendon College was never too far away and looked a danger momentarily after going through the halfway mark of the 2000m event. However, Grammar finished the strong and was comfortable on the line, with a length to spare over BCC.
