Facing up to the giant Billy Stanlake from Queensland, Short wore the bouncer directly on his collarbone/shoulder area.
There was obvious concern from batting partner Peter Handscomb, who immediately signalled to the dressing room for medical treatment while Short lay on the ground.
His Queensland opponents also rushed to his attention.
Stoically, Short continued to bat after quickly recovering, however.
As of 3.15pm, he remained on 28 not out, with the Vics at 5-108.
