Emergency services were called to the Skipton Street and Latrobe Street intersection about 2.10pm.
Witnesses said the woman was driving north on Skipton Street and attempted a U-turn, causing her to clip an oncoming car and collide with a sign in the centre median.
CFA members extracted the woman from the car, and she was helped by staff from a nearby business until an ambulance arrived.
She was taken to St John of God Hospital in a stable condition with no obvious injuries, an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.
The driver of the other car was unhurt.
