The decision came just 24 hours after saying finals would be played this weekend despite the major threat of COVID-19.
That original call to play came in spite of Cricket Australia strongly recommending that all amateur cricket within the community cease, including training.
The Courier has seen an email that was circulated between clubs - created by a club representative - asking for feedback on the BCA's decision to play and go against CA's recommendation.
Shortly after, on Wednesday night, the BCA sent out a statement declaring the season over.
"On behalf of the BCA board I advise that all senior and junior cricket for this weekend and for the remainder of the season has been cancelled," the statement, attributed to BCA president Rob Florence, read.
THE STATEMENT TO CLUBS
The statement said that the BCA had obtained "significant additional information and updates" during Wednesday including the materialisation of legal action and insurance issues and clarification of the recommended, but not mandated, outcomes of Cricket Australia combined with examples of Cricket Victoria action.
It noted that there had been an "increase in cancellations across a range of sports", outlined that "some clubs have challenged our initial position in a forthright and uncomplimentary manner" and stated there would likely be forfeits this weekend if cricket was played.
The statement concluded that a decision on which clubs would be crowned premiers would be made and communicated in due course.
Florence told The Courier he remained comfortable with the initial decision made on Tuesday given the information which was at hand at that point in time.
