The park closed its gates at 12 noon to help stop the spread of coronavirus.
"This was a difficult decision and one that has been carefully considered, we have a duty of care to our community to flatten the curve and help stop the spread of coronavirus," a park spokesperson said on a Facebook post making the announcement.

"We know the park means a lot to our members and visitors, being a place to enjoy some fresh air and connect with wildlife."While the park is closed, keepers will continue to care for the animals and offer online updates on their antics.
The announcement of the park's closure came just hours after Zoos Victoria made the decision to close Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary.
Ballarat Wildlife Park had already made some changes to their operations to assist with social distancing and had cancelled guided tours and presentations, but took the decision to close to help contain any possible coronavirus infections.
