Central Highlands Water has today released its current water supply numbers and it makes encouraging reading for the region.
Ballarat itself has a water supply at 81.5 per cent with the region's biggest reservoirs will stocked well above the usual levels for this time of year. The supply has dropped around about 1 per cent from the last update in the middle of last month.
CHW's share of Lal Lal Reservoir, far and away the biggest in the region sits at an astonishing 90.1 per cent at the end of March, a far cry from the same time last year when it had a 70 per cent supply.
Ballarat's second largest catchment, White Swan Reservoir is at 77.1 per cent, up from 60 per cent at the start of April 2019.
Moorabool Reservoir has shown the most gain in the past 12 months. This time last year, it sat at just 29 per cent capacity, but is now at a healthy 65.8 per cent.
Central Highlands Water has also released its coronavirus information sheet for water users saying there is no evidence that water is a transmitter of the disease.
"Our water treatment and disinfection facilities are designed to remove or inactivate the most resistant pathogens from the water supply," CHW's Managing Director Paul O'Donohue said.
"Our existing treatment processes are highly effective to inactivate the COVID-19 virus.
"We have stringent hygiene measures in place at water treatment plants and secondary disinfection facilities.
"Our water treatment plants are secure. They have back-up power, a high level of automation and remote operation, and require few staff to operate."
