In a time of darkness for most sporting clubs and organisations, new lights are set to brighten up a range of facilities in Ballarat.

The City of Ballarat is continuing to roll out the major infrastructure upgrades and five venues are poised for makeovers in the coming months.
Prince of Wales Park's hockey complex will receive 500 lux LED lighting, with the $420,000 project scheduled to be finished during April.
Hockey Ballarat is the major user of the Gillies Street North facility.
Also planned for completion during this month is a $500,000 job at Russell Square. The northern soccer pitches will get 100 lux LED lighting, which will provide a boost to Ballarat North United Soccer Club, Ballarat Touch Association and the East Ballarat Cricket Club.
Over at Pleasant Street Reserve, two pitches are in line for 100 lux LED lights. This $400,000 project, which will benefit the Ballarat Soccer Club, is expected to be done in June.
At nearby Trekardo Park, one pitch will be fitted with 100 lux LED lighting. The $320,000 worth of works will also boost the Ballarat Soccer Club and should be finished sometime in June.
The Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club's BMX track at Marty Busch Reserve will receive 200 lux LED lighting and is also expected to be installed by the middle of the year. This project is priced at $300,000.
At St George's Reserve, the home of the Sebastopol Vikings soccer club, two pitches have received 100 lux LED lighting. The $420,000 upgrade was completed in March.
In a media statement, City of Ballarat said that lighting upgrades to sporting facilities in the municipality had traditionally been delivered using metal halide light fittings.
"This state-of-the-art LED lighting technology produces a very high light quality, is extremely energy efficient, has a life span of up to 100,000 hours (compared to up to 15,000 hours for metal halide) and has very low maintenance costs and low ongoing running costs," the statement read.
City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Ben Taylor said Ballarat continued to invest in its sporting facilities and communities.
"These major lighting upgrades will deliver fantastic facilities to enable a range of sports and clubs and the general community to train and compete at night," he said.
"Improving our city's sporting infrastructure continues to be a major focus for the City and we look forward to seeing these facilities enjoyed for many years to come."
The projects will be funded by the City of Ballarat and Victorian Government.
