I've seen countless games, recall many memorable moments, met some great people and enjoyed every minute of covering this wonderful competition.

So in this period of hiatus, it felt like a good time to reflect on those footballers that have taken the CHFL by storm.

I've weighed up a number of factors when coming up with my list of the top 10 best players in the last decade, including longevity, skill and team and individual success.

Of course there'll be plenty that don't agree, but the debate is part of the fun.

And sorry to the defenders out there... I tried to fit one in!

Arrived to join brother and coach Joe Gilbert at Buninyong back in 2011 and what a find he has been for the club. A real accumulator of the ball, rarely makes a mistake and seems to have time in congestion others don't have. Finds a place in the top 10 above others because of his consistency.

One of the unrelenting workhorses of the competition, who has been at the coalface of the Burras' premiership triumphs through the last decade. There's more talented players out there, but few have lifted their respective teams like O'Halloran. The nippy onballer has been in the top five of the Geoff Taylor Medal count three times since 2010.

Joined the Tigers in 2014 on the back of McMahon's signature and proved one of the major parts to Springbank's success. Can play around the ground, but has been most damaging in attack as a small forward with a lethal eye for goal and an ability to break open a situation. A real match-winner.

Like Benson, only played in the CHFL for a short time but had a huge influence. Came with a big reputation and delivered with more than 250 goals from about 70 games. His class in attack was a major reason the club won back-to-back flags in 2015 and 2016.

Spent just five years with the Demons, but what a stint it was. Was clearly the premier ruckman of the competition during that time and helped the club win a flag in 2014 with a best-on-ground display in the decider. Back-to-back Geoff Taylor medals sits well on his resume.

For years, the Hepburn full forward terrorised defenders and kicked big bags of goals through a golden period for the club. Had brilliant contested marking ability and worked superbly in tandem with Andy McKay. Had limited appearances after 2016, but did more than enough to be regarded as a top 10 player of the decade.

While the ultimate success has eluded him, the Bombers midfielder has shown his class right through the past decade. A highly damaging footballer with the Sherrin and with a keen eye for goal, Morgan has led the club from the front as both a coach and player.

One of the league's real journeymen, Sullivan has enjoyed success wherever he has gone. While not blessed with the skill of some players, his toughness and desperation to win have made him a great of the league. Won the 2013 Geoff Taylor Medal.

The Rolls-Royce of the league, Cummings was a huge part of the Bulldogs' golden era during the early part of the decade. Injury hindered him at times, but what a player he has been. A silky smooth mover, Cummings has serious ball-winning ability and a super kick.

What more can you say about the Hepburn star? Time and time again he's done things others can't, with high-flying marks a trademark of his game over the years. Has dominated in the midfield and around the ground and always bobs up for some goals. The best CHFL player I've seen... and by a decent margin.
