Alexander nominated his hometown cup as a possible target for Haky ($13) after the imported stayer saluted in the William Newton VC Handicap, 2600m, at Flemington on Saturday.
"We've got a lot of plans, but we'll just have to see.
"I'm not saying that he's going to win a Melbourne Cup, but he could win a Geelong Cup, Bendigo Cup or Ballarat Cup - maybe just a little bit below the Melbourne Cup, but where he ran today, who knows," said Alexander, who won last year's Ballarat Cup with Kiwia.
Haky's first Australian win came at his fourth start for Alexander after arriving from England with trainer John Hammond last spring.
"If you could design a race, it was perfect," Alexander said.
"The two horses (in front) were going a good gallop, we were behind them having a breather.
"It was just like a racecourse gallop, really.
"Our horse is a good horse on his day and the race went well.
"Massive credit to the team and owners because he is a bit of a tricky horse," he said.
Winning jockey Declan Bates described the performance as a "super run".
"He stepped quite well from the wide gate, so I just had to let him roll a bit early.
"He came back under me behind the speed and travelled really. He stays really well. It was a good tough win," Bates said.
