A $75,000 project has been started at Pennyweight Park and will begin shortly, a City of Ballarat statement said, with the construction of seating and a shelter as part of the recreation area.
The new park is being delivered through the council's Engaging Communities Program in Ballarat East and includes a fully-enclosed space and shelter to protect users from the weather.
Council says the funding commitment is in response to priorities identified during consultation for the Ballarat East Local Area Plan in 2018, and follows a previous public consultation in October 2019.
The project will provide a secure fenced area and additional seating within the park site.
Work on the construction of the shelter is expected to take a fortnight, says City of Ballarat, with the perimeter fence and other elements such as paths and seating to follow. Further upgrades including additional tree planting are proposed in the future.
Council reminds ratepayers fenced dog parks in the municipality are currently closed to the public until further notice, in accordance with current COVID-19 pandemic regulations.
Council was given control of Pennyweight Park by the Crown in 1982.
