Dozens of police are scouring the NSW New England village and surrounds in search of a man as part of a police operation.
Police are remaining tight-lipped on the suspect but it is understood the operation is connected to the ongoing investigation of the death of a baby in Aberdeen in the Hunter Valley earlier this week.
Trail bike police are patrolling the village and several police cars have been seen coming and going from the station.
Oxley police declined to comment on the operation when contacted by the Leader.
A spokesperson for NSW Police confirmed the major operation in Nundle but would not be drawn on the details.
"A police operation is under way in relation to an ongoing investigation," the spokesperson said. "No further details can be released at this stage."
On Sunday afternoon, a seven-month-old boy was rushed to hospital by his mother in Muswellbrook in an unresponsive state. The baby was unable to be revived by doctors and died in hospital.
Hunter Valley police have been investigating the death which they have confirmed is being treated as suspicious.
On Tuesday, police made a public appeal for information as part of the investigation.
Police have said a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Investigations are continuing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
