Three palm trees, a gift from Echuca, were planted during the Civic Hall construction works along Doveton Street in late 2018 - a day later, the northern-most palm tree collapsed.
Palm trees are a species of plant that dies when the top part, which is where the tree grows, is damaged.
The tree was declared dead in October, almost a year since its collapse, and a replacement was sought.
It was removed in March.
It's understood the replacement tree was donated by a Ballarat resident.
Following the tree's initial collapse, bracing was installed to help the other two palm trees take root and grow - this will need to stay for years to ensure no further collapses.
The trees are Canary Island Date Palms (Phoenix canariensis).
In a statement, a City of Ballarat spokesperson confirmed the tree had been donated.
"The City of Ballarat's Parks and Gardens team has excavated and replaced one of the site's palm trees with a new palm tree," they said.
"The palm tree has been generously donated by a local resident and has similar dimensions to the two existing palms.
"Like the two existing palms, the City of Ballarat has received the tree at no cost. The only costs have related to the transport and installation, and the rectification of the palm tree."

Smaller palms arrived first. They have kept a lower profile than their Doveton Street North counterparts.

The journey and the trauma of the fall proved too much for the tree. The council confirmed its death following several independent arborists telling The Courier they thought the tree was on its way out.
