The youngster has applied for a transfer to Riddell in the Riddell District league after joining the Lions in the off-season.
Sunbury coach Travis Hodgson said Derksen would be playing with Sunbury this year and next season.
Derksen, 18, played with Nighcliff in the NTFL and trained with the Essendon VFL squad early in the pre-season as well as Sunbury.
