Club members were notified of the decision on Wednesday night.
"The board considered the most recent feedback from clubs together with information gathered from league meetings conducted with clubs during the pandemic," league chairman Peter Byrne said.
"It was evident that clubs had an overwhelming desire for the future of the 2020 season to be determined immediately and to cancel was the most appropriate action to ensure the long-term sustainability of their clubs and the leagues."

The Ovens and King has followed country leagues such as the Kyabram District, South West District, Heathcote District and Millewa in abandoning their senior competitions. Melbourne's Eastern and Northern leagues also called time on 2020 this week.
The Central Highlands competition beat the Ovens and King during the statewide interleague championships in 2013.
