A runaway city bus has caused significant damage to an historic veranda in Buninyong this morning.
The CDC passenger bus smashed through the veranda just after 8am on Warrenheip Street, right in the heart of town.
The scene has been taped off by police as emergency crews try and figure out how to clear the incident.
The bus has taken out a major support for the verandah and there is debris scattered throughout the area.
It has also pinned a small hatchback car up against one of the support beams.
Victoria Police confirmed there was nobody on board the bus at the time, including the driver, and nobody was injured.
The incident is believed to have been caused by a mechanical fault, according to police.
Staff at a neighbouring cafe said they were sitting outside when the incident occurred.
"It was just a normal quiet morning and then there was this huge crash," one staff member said.
"It was so loud. We looked over and the bus had taken out a lot of the veranda. We thought the whole thing was going to come down."

A staff member at another business less than 20 meters from the incident told The Courier he was not surprised something like this has happened.
"We've been waiting for something like this to be honest," he said.
"It can be dangerous when people come out of (the BP service station). I just hope everyone is okay."
The Courier has contacted CDC bus lines for comment.
