Payne rode her first winner in a year at Echuca on Saturday,
She had the reins on Victory Approach ($8), which she also trains, in a maiden.
Payne concentrates on her training these days and has only had 33 race rides since saluting on Tenacity Miss on June 2 last year.
She rarely takes rides outside her own stable, with her father Paddy Payne and NSW-based Jeremy Sylvester the only other trainers she has had mounts for in the past 12 months.
A 3yo filly, Victory Approach's first success came at her sixth visit to the races.
Payne is building a handy strike rate as a trainer from her Miners Rest base near the Dowling Forest racecourse.
Her latest 24 starters have produced eight winners since April 12 - the most successful stint she has had since taking up training in 2016.
She has nominated last-start winner Smokin' Pierro for Sandown on Wednesday.
BALLARAT apprentice jockey Will Price kept his season rolling along with a double at Echuca.
He combined with Arigato ($3.90 favourite) and Kingstar Amber ($5) for trainer Shane Nichols in each.
Price is closing in on 80 wins in his first season in the saddle.
Price will continue his busy workload on his home track on Tuesday with four mounts as he strives to reach the milestone of a century of wins.
He also had four mounts in Ballarat on Sunday.
