The rail authority told The Courier it was in the process of completing the investigation into the incident which occurred at 11.30pm on Saturday May 30 involving a Wendouree-bound train at the Lydiard Street level crossing.
V/Line said the investigation is looking into the cause and consequences of the incident as a way to assist in "making future operational decisions and completing repairs to the network".
V/Line chief executive James Pinder said for the time being the barriers will remain in place across Lydiard Street with no date set for their removal.
"Safety is our number one priority and we continue to work through a detailed investigation into this incident, as well as assisting independent agencies with formal investigations and enquiries," Mr Pinder said.
Meanwhile, for the second successive month, V/Line has hit its punctuality targets on the Ballarat line, but the big test will come in the next few months as more and more people head back to work after the COVID-19 shutdown.
According to new statistics released by the rail authority, V/Line scored well on both reliability and punctuality on the Ballarat line.
Throughout the month, reliability on the Ballarat line was 96.7 per cent, while punctuality which takes into services that arrive and depart within 5 minutes and 59 seconds of the scheduled time ran at 93.7 per cent.
But as was the case in April, the figures can be taken with a grain of salt in some respect as the number of passengers was much lower than usual due to the the amounts of people working from home.
In peak times, the only Ballarat service to run at close to capacity in the morning was the 6.38am from Wendouree which had a 99 per cent capacity for the month while in the evenings, only the 5.10pm service ran at 100 per cent.
Punctuality and reliability was also high on the Ararat and Maryborough long distance services with reliability at 98.8 per cent and punctuality at 92.9 per cent during the month.
