The Federation University sports management student said there was a lot of uncertainty in how the industry would recover post-pandemic - and a big part of this was in job opportunities.
Mr Anderson said whatever happened, the chance to stay on in his Basketball Ballarat internship had taught him a whole new game with invaluable experience he could adapt anywhere.
"My role was going to be as major events intern and doing a lot with NBL1 and Miners and Rush...This was a different feel and perspective in the sense that I got to see and be part of how (Basketball Ballarat) managed their way through a real crisis," Mr Anderson said.
"Going into an internship you're never sure how much responsibility you might get but it's been great and really allowed me to feel part of the workforce."
Mr Anderson, while working from home, focused primarily on researching opportunities for potential future event in indoor sports, including e-sports, that would be suited to Ballarat facilities.
He also helped to review Basketball Ballarat processes for hosting events, including public exposure and media sponsorship and chances to grow this.
Mr Anderson said he was fortunate to have the chance to adapt and keep up an internship when others in his course had been forced to put their industry experience on hold.
"Early on it was hard to be able to understand what was going on and I was nervous," Mr Anderson said. "Completing an internship is important for your future."
Basketball Ballarat commercial partnerships manager Andrew Day said it was a tough time for the sports industry as a whole. While Basketball Ballarat employees were working reduced hours, they still felt compelled to try and make an internship for Mr Anderson - Mr Day said they had all been in his shoes once.
Mr Day said the restrictions had allowed Basketball Ballarat the chance to review its events and competitions in depth and find ways to improve and Mr Anderson's fresh perspective proved a key part of that.
