Clunes president Brendan Sheehan posted a statement on Facebook on Wednesday night confirming the Magpies had abandoned the campaign.
"After much consideration it is the decision of the Clunes Football Netball Club Executives & Committee members that we will not be participating in all grades for the 2020 Central Highlands Football & Central Highlands Netball League," the statement read.
"We appreciate that this decision may not please everyone and can assure you it has not been an easy one to make, but we fell this decision to be the best for future of our great club."
This was followed by confirmation from a Carngham-Linton spokesperson that the Saints were out of the league's open-age football and netball grades.
A call on Carngham-Linton's junior teams has not yet been made.
Before lunch on Wednesday, Darley posted a statement on its Facebook page informing that it had taken out all senior grade football and netball sides from a potential BFNL season.
The Central Highlands Football League board is understood to have been meeting on Wednesday evening and a decision on whether or not a season will go ahead this year is expected by Monday.
