Late Friday evening, the CHNL confirmed all of its senior and junior divisions were abandoned for the year.
This followed the decision of the Central Highlands Football League board to cancel seniors and reserves, but press on with junior grades. Under-18s, under-15s and under-12s are expected to start with some of the league's clubs in July.
"We have taken many aspects into consideration when making this decision and have certainly not made it lightly. We are currently in unprecedented times and it is disappointing that COVID-19 has affected community sport to this extent but the health and safety of our players, volunteers and supporters must be our first priority," a statement from Natalie Clark, the CHNL president, read.
The CHNL has encouraged players to look at alternative netball competitions this year.
"Unlike the football league, netball players are fortunate enough to have other associations at which they can play. We would encourage all clubs to consider entering their teams into competitions at either Wendouree Netball Association or Ballarat Netball Association, or elsewhere, if at all possible," the statement read.
Hepburn won last year's A-grade netball premiership after beating Springbank in the grand final.
