Ward was speaking exclusively to The Courier for its "Off The Record" podcast and opened up about the pain he felt seeing the Bulldogs fall over under his reign as the region's footy boss.
"I had 18 years there and probably my greatest disappointment was not being able to find Smythesdale a home on my way out," Ward said.
"I think if we had have been able to deliver structural change via the senior competition review then Smythesdale would still be with us today and would be in a competition."
