But Hobson remains happy the board finished with the right result after months of deliberations through the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Some people look at us and think you should have called this ages ago and looking at where we are now they're probably right," Hobson said.
"But if we had have got there when Heathcote (District Football Netball League) pulled the pin about six weeks ago... and all of a sudden if we were sitting in the position of Western Australia we would have had half our clubs rip strips off us for not going ahead with a shorter football season.
"Hindsight in these things and 20-20 vision is always great, but you can only do what you think at the time.
"We gave ourselves every best possibility to look at all the different options and discuss with our clubs, even though I would have liked to have had more face to face meetings with them.
"I think in the end, we've got the best outcome we can, but if we went back through the processes again there's always things you'd tweak a little bit and do differently and I'm pretty sure the majority of clubs are mindful of that because they are in the same position too.
"There wasn't a lot of information there for a large amount of the time..."
Bungaree, Creswick, Hepburn, Learmonth and Waubra were the clubs that committed to a senior football season as 12 others declined to field a side this year.
A reserves competition had been canned before Friday's decision from the CHFL board, but the league's spreadsheet reveals a strong interest in the three grades of junior football. 10 clubs are set to field under-18 sides, with nine in the under-15s and eight in the under-12s.
Hobson, who is in his first year of the president's role after taking over from Eddy Comelli, said it was unknown how clubs would look by next season but believed a COVID-19 vaccine would help alleviate people's fears. He said if there isn't a vaccine and people can't feel confident about going out and playing football, this pandemic will have a lingering effect.
Waubra won last season's senior grand final.
