It was left with no choice after a majority of clubs withdrew. their football and netball teams
The BFNL announced on Thursday that it would not be going ahead with a senior competition owing to the impact and implications of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, It initially remained committed to getting a junior season off the ground, confirming this in a statement on Friday despite the Ballarat club announcing on Thursday it would not be fielding any junior teams this year.
Lake Wendouree and Redan announced on Friday they had also pulled out. Sebastopol and Bacchus Marsh followed suit on Tuesday morning, and North Ballarat later in the day.
The BFNL said it was disappointed to announce that given the changing situation in Victoria regarding COVID 19, the junior football and netball seasons would not proceed.
"There was initially a strong desire from clubs to commit to providing participation for juniors this year with plans being formulated for a junior premiership season.
"A number of clubs have since indicated they do not wish to proceed.
"Recent announcements from health experts have also cast concerns on the ability of clubs and the league to ensure a safe environment for players, parents and supporters," the statement said.
"The health and well being of everyone involved has always been at the forefront of considerations which the league now believe do not favour pressing forward this year.
"We are disappointed to make this announcement, but trust there will be understanding as to why."
