AFL Goldfields has confirmed its senior competition, and Ballarat and Riddell District leagues-based under-13 juniors, and under-15 and under-18 youth girls seasons have been called off.
"Unfortunately, it has become clear as a result of club responses and ongoing developments in the COVID-19 pandemic environment that all senior women's, youth and junior girls football competitions will be abandoned for 2020," AFL Goldfields said in a prepared statement.
There were not enough RDFNL and BFNL junior and youth girls teams wanting to play to make a season viable.
"Additionally, with the AFL Goldfields senior women's competition consisting of a mix of clubs from the eastern and western ends of the region, it would not be in the interests of the health and wellbeing of all to proceed with a season with the increasing number of COVID-19 cases."
The senior competition had 10 teams last year: Bacchus Marsh, Carisbrook, Darley, East Point, Gisborne, Lake Wendouree, Melton, Melton Centrals, Redan, Sebastopol.
This leaves the Central Highlands Football League juniors - under-18, under-15 and under-12 - as the only competitions being playing in the AFL Goldfields region this year.
All Ballarat, Maryborough Castlemaine District and Riddell District league seniors and juniors, and CHFL seniors have been cancelled.
RDFNLcalled off its junior season on Thursday.
