Senior coach Joe Carmody said they were looking to change up their preparation after not getting to play in 2020.
First though, the Swans are being given some time off.
"We were (formally) training for five weeks, so we're taking a break."
Carmody said he would use the next two to three weeks to catch up players with a view to next season.
He said the priority was to get a commitment from players and re-sign as many as possible.
Carmody said the Swans would possibly consider starting pre-season a little earlier than usual and mixing it up with different activities with the focus on fitness.
He said he was also keen to get the players together in whatever form was permitted by COVID-19 restrictions to help fill the social void left by the shutdown.
"A lot of people have really missed the social side of things - the club gatherings."
This is Carmody's second year in a two-season appointment at Ballarat.
While the Swans are yet to make an announcement, Carmody is expected to continue in the role.
Carmody said he was confident of keeping the bulk of his list, as well as having several top-end players who had struggled with injuries in 2019 fully fit - as they would have been had they played this year.
He said he was also looking forward to the group of young talent coming through from under-age ranks and those in the 20-21 year age bracket further maturing.
