Digital images from the online project are being shown on the square's big screen and BIFB director Fiona Sweet expects to receive even more submissions to the project as a result.
The Mass Isolation project invites the public to submit images that document the social isolation experienced during 2020.
To date there have been more than 7000 images submitted via instagram, and eventually a curated collection of around 300 images will form a touring exhibition and will be part of the next BIFB in August 2021.
The Fed Square projection won't be the only big outdoor screen to host the exhibition - a similar screen in Dandenong, and screens in Sydney and Brisbane will also show images from the project in the coming weeks.
Images can be submitted by uploading them to instagram with the tags #massisolationAUS, #massisolation and #ballaratfoto.
