The Blues were one of the clubs to take up the late call for entries from the Central Highlands Football League board and have now entered under-18, under-15 and under-12 side for the upcoming season.
"It's like when yo go to uni, if the kids have a gap year, like a year off footy altogether, the next year it's very hard to get them to come back to play footy," Mullane said.
'We had to do something so I'm glad they didn't shut our juniors completely down."
Mullane said the club had enough of its own numbers for under-12 and under-15 teams, but had been given some assistance from Ballarat league players that had been looking for a game following the abandonment of that competition. This has allowed the Blues to field an under-18 outfit.
The 2020 CHFL season is set to commence on Saturday, July 11.
