The Quest hotel is part of the multi-million dollar revitalisation of the precinct, in partnership with the state government, which includes a new 405-space free car park, and the Goods Shed convention and retail centre.
The new structures will be joined by a new bus interchange to the north-east of the station, connecting Nolan Street to Lydiard Street.
In a statement, Quest Apartment Hotels growth general manager James Shields said the hotel project is in the final stages of appointing franchisees.
"Quest Ballarat Station has remained on track for delivery and opening in December 2020, in time for the summer holidays when we expect there will be large cohorts of visiting friends and relatives, and looking for a place to call home," he said.
"We look forward to sharing a sneak peak of the Quest Ballarat Station interiors in the coming months."
Scaffolding around the building will soon be taken down as the exterior envelope is completed on the 77-room project.
Windows have also been completed.
Once the exteriors are finished, a three to four month internal fitout will begin.
It's anticipated about 30 jobs will be created when the hotel opens.
The project is being built by Pellicano, with a focus on local contractors, engineers and suppliers, according to managing director Nando Pellicano.
"This strategy is instrumental in delivering Quest Ballarat Station to programme, which is still on track for completion by end of year," he said in a statement.
"Local trades and supply will continue to be an important part of the project throughout the coming fitout and completion stages of works."
The Goods Shed will feature a large meeting space, dining hall, theatrette, and a food court with retail options.
IN THE NEWS:
"Pellicano's strategy for employing locals extends beyond Quest Ballarat Station and has been adopted throughout the wider Ballarat Station Precinct including the now complete Commuter Car Park and the Goods Shed Convention and Retail precinct," Mr Pellicano added.
"We are excited to see works progressing at the Goods Shed and look forward to future opportunities for ongoing employment within these areas for construction, retail fitout, property management and ongoing employment in retail and hospitality industries."
