Speaking on the latest "Off The Record" podcast, Comelli opened up about the consequences of the brawl between the Burras and Towners and how his club was able to rebuild.
Hepburn was banned from the Central Highlands Football League for three years in 2000, but later had the suspension overturned on appeal.
"It turned out to be a big incident in the end obviously in the history of the club, but it seemed like a minor incident at the time that just grew legs...," Comelli said.
"I think it's been well documented, there was two sides out on the ground and we got the short end of the stick and unfortunately it nearly rubbed our club out."
Fellow Hepburn faithful Jason Olver, Jamie Grant and Shane Robertson are also part of the podcast, which can be heard here.
