Grave doubt has been cast on senior soccer, with Ballarat District Soccer Association vice president Mark Powell saying it is unlikely a season will go ahead.

With the state government halting all senior contact sport on Friday, Powell said it was doubtful seniors would take the field in 2020.

"Clearly there is an impact on our division one and two men's program and our women's open competition," he said.
"We are waiting on word from Football Victoria but it looks highly unlikely that we'll have a senior season."
Full-contact training had been scheduled to resume on Monday for seniors, with full-contact competition set to return on July 20.
However with a significant increase in coronavirus cases in Melbourne, Victoria's Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton determined that community sport in regional Victoria must remain non-contact. This will be reviewed at the end of the month
The BDSA was set to kick-off division one and two, and women's division one competitions on Sunday, July 26.
Powell acknowledged the news was a kick in the guts for clubs and administrators.
"A lot of work had gone into it, but it's the right call from the government and we will implement whatever we've got to," he said.
The announcement impacted other sports as well.
Basketball Ballarat was set to tip off its senior competition on July 20.
Wendouree Netball Association was set to follow a week later
