After this year missing the opportunity to lead the Kangaroos to three flags in as many seasons with COVID-19 forcing the competition in recess, Bridges has agreed to coach on in 2021.
Next season will be his fifth at the helm.
East Point president Gary Wilson said the job had always been there for Bridges if he wanted it.
"It was completely up to him. It was his call."
No surprisingly East Point has been rapt with what Bridges has achieved since moving from CHFL club Buninyong, where he was joint senior coach, in 2017.
The Roos missed the finals by percentage in his first season and then secured the club's first senior premiership in 2018 after finishing on top.
East Point made it back-to-back premierships last year after again claiming top position at the end of the home and away season.
Wilson said Bridges had done an amazing job.
"He's got a great relationship with the players."
He said with Bridges' busy work commitments and having a young family, the year off might have been a blessing in disguise with a view to him going on for another year.
Wilson said the club had also importantly been able to retain a strong support structure around Bridges - a feature of its football operation that East Point had worked hard to put in place.
This includes the reappointed of senior assistant playing coach Brad Whittaker, reserves coach Kane Tolliday and under-19 coach Phil Canny.
Wilson said he was confident the Roos would again have a high player retention rate.
He said they were in the process of now talking with and re-signing players.
Meanwhile, East Point players are continuing with training sessions despite the BFL season being called off.
Wilson said training was light and it was as much about what was a tight player group getting together to maintain social contact as anything else.
The vast majority of senior football clubs have chosen to take a break from training.
