CHILDREN heading to school would have felt a decided nip in the air this morning as Ballarat's temperature plummeted below zero until well after 8am.
And the 'feels like' temperature added a whole new dimension to the Ballarat weather - incredibly its coldest point of -6.8 Celsius occurred at 8.10am.
It took until just after 8am to record our official overnight low of -2.7C, by far and away the coldest night of the month, and just the third time we've dropped below zero.
Just over halfway through the month, Ballarat is tracking on or about average. However rainfall is slightly down.
To date, Ballarat has received 32.2mm of rain, but the majority of that came in one downpour last Sunday when we received 18.2mm.
Temperature-wise, Ballarat is averaging 10.4 degrees, pretty much exactly what you would expect for July.
