The state government has committed a share of $7.5 million for maintenance along the Ballarat rail line, part of a $126 million works package.

According to the state government, the works include rail profiling and milling, which will improve crossing and signalling reliability and support improved wheel life for VLocity trains.
The works will occur between Deer Park Junction and Ballarat, as well as between Ballarat and Ararat.

It's understood the works will begin later this year - other locations include Donnybrook to Seymour, Corio to Waurn Ponds, and the Bendigo East Track.
In a media release, the state government also committed $83 million for sleeper replacement, level crossing works, and other maintenance on 400km of freight-only lines, including across western Victoria.
The works will take place on the Korong Vale to Inglewood, Inglewood to Dunolly, Rainbow to Dimboola and Murtoa to Hopetoun freight lines.

Another $36 million was allocated to improve Bombardier's fleet maintenance in Bendigo and Melbourne.
There is still no news on the full completion of the massive Ballarat Line Upgrade project, which promised new passing loops as well as rebuilt stations to provide more frequent and reliable trains.
