Reappointed Roy was to have coached the Ballarat Football League club for the first time this year, but did not get past an extended pre-season owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He was a relatively late appointment in mid-October for his return to the Devils, where he was a premiership player and assistant coach in 2017 - making recruiting a little more difficult than they would have hoped.
Darley president Mark Shelly said the club was more than happy to have kept Roy on board.
He said with the work undertaken since the 2019 season the club had a strong base to work on.
Shelly said the continued development of a talented band of youngsters would be a focus.
He believes Darley has some potentially readymade senior players coming out of under-age ranks, with many having been blooded by previous coach Heath Scotland.
The president said negotiations were under way with existing, with him confirming the core of the list had already recommitted for 2021.
This includes well credentialed recruit George Steven, who was a teammate with Roy at Lorne in the Colac and District league.
Roy is one of three first-year senior coaches in the BFL who missed out on an opportunity to lead their new clubs this year to have been reappointed.
Tom German (Bacchus Marsh) and Michael Searl (Sebastopol) found themselves in the same situation with the season abandoned.
