A progressive education

With a new principal at the helm, and exciting future plans, Loreto College Ballarat provides its students an educational experience like no other within the Ballarat region.
Loreto College is the region's only girls' Catholic secondary school providing a progressive education for young women for their global future.
The College provides high-quality programs, facilities and traditions within distinctive heritage and contemporary surroundings and is poised to step courageously forward to meet the flourishing need for a Catholic education in the Loreto tradition in our region.
New principal, Ms Michelle Brodrick commenced at the start of Term 3 and has been warmly welcomed by the Loreto and wider Ballarat community.
Michelle is looking forward to overseeing the exciting plans for expansion and innovative curriculum come into fruition.
"I have seen the growth and development that has taken place and is continuing to take place as Ballarat firmly establishes itself as a city of choice for many Victorians," Michelle said.
"I have been overwhelmed by the number of people who have told me in the past few months about their connection to Loreto. All speak of the College in glowing terms. Their sense of pride is immeasurable and the value in a Loreto education is obviously significant."
The young women who enter the gates at the beginning of their Loreto journey become a member of a welcoming community that is innovative, future thinking, holistic and dynamic.
As they continue their education, they experience the benefits of unwavering support, encouragement and the nurturing of their own individual gifts and talents, allowing them each to excel in whichever pathway they choose - from performing on stage, to working as a medical researcher, or even in their goal to becoming a Melbourne Cup winning jockey.
These attributes are distinctively Loreto, an integral element of the College's values and mission which is based upon the Catholic perspective that formed the spirit and values of the global Loreto founder, Mary Ward.
Loreto College knows that for girls to thrive in education, they must first feel safe and belong, and the care of the person must come first.
Loreto supports this wholeheartedly, through a dedicated wellbeing program that includes a spirited House system to develop a sense of belonging, mentor groups to develop a strong teacher/student/parent support network and the original Felicitous Life Program, a holistic wellbeing program based on the principals of positive psychology.
The wide range of curricular and co-curricular programs, VCE, VCAL and VET pathways offered are enhanced by regional learning partnerships such as the Ballarat Technology School and Plate Up Ballarat.
In addition, there are many smaller groups at the College at a more grass roots level, which support and advocate for values and issues including the Environmental Action Committee, Justice Peace and the Integrity of Creation (JPIC), philosophy in Socrates Café, and music at the Coffee Club.
These are all catered to the wide-ranging gifts, talents and interests of our students, allowing them all to be pursued.
Loreto values its history and traditions, and prides itself on its adaptability to grow, to change, and to flourish.
Exciting plans and innovation in education for future skills is at the forefront for the new principal and the young women who will be an integral part of this future.
