This comes after the RACGP launched five revised position statements to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healthcare, covering a range of issues, including social determinants of health and improving primary care for patients.
Ms Heap welcomed the decision and backed the RACGP's push for increased funding for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healthcare.
"We welcome all initiatives which seek to address the critical need for improved - and culturally safe - approaches to Aboriginal health," she said.
"We especially applaud the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)'s call for increased funding to Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
"ACCOs such as BADAC provide programs and services which are culturally safe and trusted by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. A great example of this is our new medical centre here in Ballarat's CBD which offers GP services, Aboriginal nurses, mental health programs and much more."
