It has snowed in Ballarat this morning as the region braces for the coldest day of the year so far.

There were brief flurries of snow throughout Ballarat between 7am and 8am, although it was barely enough to settle on the ground.
The temperature has only broke through one degree at 8.40am and had not exceeded six degrees by 12.30pm.
In areas surrounding Ballarat, there have been reasonably heavy flurries falling sporadically.
At Mt Buninyong, one of Ballarat's go-to locations for snow hunters, there were small crowds around.
Although there were reasonable amounts of snow around, it was not as heavy as last year.
There has also been some great vision of horses being trained in the snow at Ballarat Turf Club in Miners Rest.
With the mercury not expected to exceed 7 degrees today, it is expected to continue snowing throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday morning.
Yesterday Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Christie Johnson said it would be one of the "coldest outbreaks of the year".
She said there would be some "sunny breaks in between cold, hail showers and potential snow".
Many people who are still travelling to work have also approached their cars to find their car windscreens have iced over.
It is important to always clear the windscreen before leaving home as decreased visibility can increase the risk of a collision.
Ballarat Sergeant Nick Harrison said community members should remember to be extra careful on the roads, due to icy conditions.
"Drive to the conditions, don't tailgate and wipe off five to arrive alive," he said.
With people expected to venture outside to find the snow on what is a pupil free school day, police remind people to adhere to social distancing, maintain hand hygiene and wear a mask.
