The "well-regarded and versatile car builder and team manager", who has worked with Australian touring car legends like Allan Moffat and Dick Johnson, died after having a stroke, following a diagnosis of myeloma, according to reports.
Speedcafe.com said he was still working in his Robinson Racing Developments business up until a week ago.
"For more than five decades, Robinson, who had a long association with the Ford Motor Company, prepared competitive cars for production, improved production, Formula Ford, AUSCAR, Targa and Supercar competition," it said.
"His skills were also sourced by several in the speedboat community.

"Robinson did a restoration of Ian Vaughan's XT Falcon which finished third in the London to Sydney Marathon."
The Courier has been flooded with tributes for the "true legend".
John O'Neill, Ballarat: Ted was a state and national ski race champion, he built most of the motors for the Ballarat ski races from the mid 70s, also ran his own boat with great success. He always had a great story to tell. Will be missed.
Keith McElroy, Mt Helen: We are so sad to say goodbye to Ted after more than 30 years of friendship, hanging in the workshop and learning so much from his extraordinary knowledge and skill. He built very successful cars for me at Club level and in Tasmania and also allowed Jenny and I the privilege of helping his teams at Bathurst by working as timekeepers and logistics co-ordinators. Exciting times. We enjoyed quiet times and good stories over evening meals. We were well aware of his love and pride in daughter Karen, rivalled only in the last 3 years by granddaughter Maeve. Thanks for the memories and rest in peace.
Ben Houghton, Ballarat: You will never be able to replace this great man, the world won't be the same without him. I remember Ted taking me through his workshop when I was 18, and my eye lighting up to all the amazing things he was doing. Truly will be missed!
David Jones, Hamlyn Heights: I've known Ted for a long time and during the recent time with his team when preparing and racing the F6 Falcons. A true friend and will be greatly missed as we had plans for lunch that had been postponed because of covid restrictions.
Marg McPhee, Ballarat: Ted's contribution to motor racing and the motoring industry will always be remembered. He was always ready and willing to help with his amazing knowledge and mechanical skills. A true gentleman, a good and kind friend. I'll miss you Ted.
Ron McLean, Lake Wendouree: Always a friendly smile, great to deal with, a legend in his own time. Watch the Fords go by!
Ian Gilhome and Dianne Hadden, Ballarat: Our sincere condolences to Karen and family of Ted - Ted was always prepared to share his great wealth of knowledge and experience about all things cars and mechanics and he was a really good bloke. Very sad to hear of Ted's passing.
Thanks for the memories and rest in peace
Colin Slingo, Colignan: RIP mate.
Jeff Stewart, Canadian: As others have said, Ted was a quiet and generous person. When first meeting him around 20 years ago I was super impressed by his willingness to discuss options and solutions, whilst giving the impression that others were as well informed and "clever" as he continually proved to be. A very knowledgeable gentleman. Ted will be missed in the broader motoring community.
Marc Duthie, Ballarat: I first met Ted when I was working at M & W Engine Services that was next door at the time. Ted welcomed me in my spare time and taught me so much about car engineering and helped rebuild a couple of cars. He shared his knowledge and encouraged me to do better. I hadn't seen as much of him in the last few years but what he taught me will stay with me forever.
Mark Dawe, Ballarat: Ted was a great friend, I loved calling in to talk out ideas, listen to his stories and soak up his vast knowledge. Often a planned 10 minute visit would turn into a couple of hours! I loved giving him a hard time and he dished it out as good as he was given! RIP Ted, you will be greatly missed.
Bruce Everett, Echuca: Deepest sympathy to Ted's family, l did my apprenticeship under Ted, hence a great bloke and a great teacher. We followed the speedboats all around. Taught me alot about engine performance, something l will carry with me forever.
Karl Ponsonby, Melbourne: I knew Ted for 30+ years. So, so sad. I still talk about him proudly to my friends as a legend in his industry. His guidance and knowledge he passed on to me is something I am deeply proud of. Ted was the soul I needed at times in my life. Deepest sympathies to Karen and family.
Aileen Reymers, Laanecoorie: I knew Ted from when he built my motor back in 96/97. My dad took me to him coz they were mates and Ted said "I'll build a beaut motor it will purr like a kitten and you'll love it trust me" well when I picked up my car he was right, it was a beast and he really knew how to build an engine. He was a hell of a guy and it's so sad to know he's gone. He will be greatly missed.
You will never be able to replace this great man
Blue Bethune, Ballarat: Sad to hear of your death mate. 43 years of friendship was an honour with many great times together. A brilliant mechanic. Goodbye mate.

Robert Goon: Mister Ted Robinson ... I first met Ted way before he was building Performance engines and Race vehicles. He was a softly spoken man who knew his Craft inside and out. A valued part of the Alan Moffat Ford Racing team attributed with building winning Race Cars. Obviously much more to Teds personal history but it was my honour to have personally known Mr Ted Robinson.
Lynne Veca: My former husband worked for Ted, a lovely man, who excelled in his craft.
According to Speedcafe.com, he is survived by daughter Karen, son-in-law Ash, granddaughter Maeve, sister Beryl and friends.
