AS this edition of Out & About was going to print, regional Victoria was in the midst of its second COVID-19 lockdown. Coronavirus restrictions could make spring 2020 vastly different to the season as we know it, so while it'll be liberating to throw off the winter layers, step out and get reacquainted with all that Ballarat has to offer, we recommend contacting businesses ahead of time to confirm their arrangements and opening hours.
This edition has plenty of ideas for how to enjoy the season, from backyard camping and spring gardening, to family day trips and ways to support local businesses online. It's also packed full of travel advice, from hiking tips for beginners, to holidaying with pets, and how to best capture a breathtaking canola field.
Don't forget about hand sanitiser, face masks and the all-important physical distancing. Please also check with government regulations before travelling to the area.
Some things however, will not change. Winter frosts will make way for warmer days. Blossoms will produce a beautiful display of colour. Father's Day will be celebrated on September 6. There will be an AFL grand final - somewhere. Kids will dress up to enjoy Halloween in some capacity. Enjoy whatever this season has in store. Keep your friends and family close, stay safe, and take comfort in the fact brighter days are ahead.
