The Ballarat girl swam in a heat of the event, but was told she would not be required in the decider later that night.

As it panned out, the team went on to finish third and claim a bronze medal, which Reese also received.
"Looking back I'm a little bit shocked I think at the reaction I gave the coaches where I probably should have been more angry or questioned them or something," Reese said in the latest Off The Record podcast.
"I literally just bounced away, went and saw Mum and Dad. Of course behind closed doors you let out what you need to let out at how disappointed you were because you did put in all the time and effort and so did they."
