The bushfire south of Buninyong is now under control, as of about 11.40am.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer Tony English said eight firefighters worked on the fire today and were currently blacking out and patrolling the fire ground.
The wind change late in the morning brought rainfall to the fire ground which extinguished the fire.
The fire burned about 10 hectares of grass and scrub, with about 500 metres of fencing also damaged.
While the advice warning remains for residents living near this fire, the advice warning for the fire near Mt Clear has been removed.
EARLIER:
FIREFIGHTERS are battling an out of control bushfire south of Buninyong.
The fire, which started about 9.00pm on Monday, has burnt through five hectares.
It is travelling in a southerly direction from near River Road, Grenville, towards Mt Mercer.
The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning is in control of the response to the fire, which is believed to be an escaped burn-off from private land.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer Tony English said the fire had burnt through grass and scrub along the Yarrowee River, at Hardies Hill, in inaccessible terrain.
Two FFMV fire crews monitored the blaze overnight due to strong winds.
"There are no properties damaged and the fire is expected to be contained later today," he said.
While authorities say there is no threat to residents, an advice message has been issued to those living in Cargerie, Elaine, Enfield, Grenville and Mount Mercer.
Smoke will be visible and residents should stay informed and monitor conditions.
The fire could be fanned by strong winds today, with the Bureau of Meteorology releasing a severe weather warning for damaging winds for parts of the state, including Ballarat.
Strong northerly winds will continue ahead of a cold front expected to move across Victoria today, BOM said.
Damaging winds, averaging 50 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h, will continue ahead of the front. It is expected to arrive about midday.
Meanwhile, an advice message is still active for people living in Canadian, Mount Clear, Mount Helen, Navigators and Warrenheip for a grass and scrub fire which ignited at Bakers Road near Mt Clear on Sunday, though this fire is now safe.
The fire started just after 3pm and a number of local Country Fire Authority crews attended, in addition to crews from Fire Rescue Victoria.
Three personnel from Forest Fire Management Victoria also attended.
A spokesperson said a First Attack Dozer was first deployed to the fire to construct a fire break, to ensure the fire was under control ahead of forecast strong winds.
The fire was brought under control at 7.30pm.
Approximately 0.3 of a hectare of public land was burnt.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
