Reigning national high school champion Ben Creanor has signed with professional E-Sports team the LG Dire Wolves - a multi-discipline organisation which competes across a number of video game titles.

He will be a part of the organisation's NBA2K team. NBA2K is a well-known basketball video game.

The team took to social media to announce the signing of Creanor last month.

Since then, the Damascus College student has won the national META E-Sports grand final, successfully rectifying last year's agonising loss in the 2019 championship.

He won three out of three playoff games to advance to the decider, and played a 12-round season before that.

The Courier profiled Creanor in 2019 to talk about his unique journey.

As a lifetime basketball lover, Creanor first started playing the popular basketball video game series in 2010.

Having played basketball since the age of four, he said E-Sports allowed him to combine two of his favorite things.

"People don't like to compare it to real sports, but there is a lot of time and effort put into the game, and you don't just get good at it," he said.

"The more you play and train, the more you can improve and play at a national level."

Creanor said he usually plays as the Milwaukee Bucks.
