Joel Lee Vermeend, 34, appeared via a video link from prison on Thursday afternoon. He did not make an application for bail.

An arrest warrant was issued for Vermeend on Tuesday after he failed to appear on bail at the court for a sentencing hearing. He was charged with new firearms offences in August.

Defence lawyer Jarred Hofman asked the court to remand his client and for the matter to be adjourned until October 6 for a mention.

Magistrate Ron Saines has made himself part-heard in the matter.

MEANWHILE, a 20-year-old man who allegedly threatened to slit the throats of his ex-girlfriend's family has indicated he will plead guilty.

Police allege Jay Lee contacted his ex-girlfriend's family and friends on September 2 and 5 wanting to know her location.

He allegedly threatened to kill her friends and family if they did not tell him, causing them to feel fearful.

Lee faced the Ballarat Magistrates' Court via a video link on Thursday. His lawyer Scott Belcher sought an adjournment for a guilty plea hearing.

Lee was remanded in custody until the hearing in October.
