Elizabeth van Beek, Executive Officer of the Ballarat Agricultural & Pastoral Society, said the idea for the competition came from wanting to tell the community BAPS is still working hard despite having basically all of its events cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"People think about BAPS in terms of its events, like the Spring Show," she said.
We wanted to let people know that we're still here and we're still working for the community during this time.

Ms van Beek added her enthusiasm in terms of staying involved with the community during this time without events.
"We wanted to still be able to engage with the community in a positive way," she continued.
"We do a lot of work with farmers and more rural communities, so we wanted to reach out to more suburban residents in Ballarat and get them involved.
"Just about everyone has got a veggie patch or veggie garden these days, especially since people have spent a lot more time at home during the pandemic."
The competition has four categories: best kitchen garden, best organic kitchen garden, best compost kitchen garden and best children's kitchen garden.
Only one entry can be submitted per household, except if the household is entering in the children's category.
Judging will take place when judges are able to visit the gardens in person.
There is a $5 entry fee, and entry forms can be found online at ballaratshow.org.au or by calling 03 5338 1877.
